What is geotagging?+
Geotagging means embedding geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) into a photo's metadata. A geotagged photo carries the place it was taken inside the file itself, in a standard EXIF field that maps, portals and photo apps can read.
How do I geotag a photo online?+
Open the geotagger, add your photo, choose a location on the map (or search a place), and download. The GPS coordinates are written into the image's EXIF entirely in your browser.
Is this image geotagger free?+
Yes. Geotagging photos is free with a generous daily limit, and every feature is included. Pro just removes the daily limit.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?+
No. All geotagging happens locally in your browser, so your photos never leave your device. Most online geotaggers upload your file. This one doesn't.
Which formats can I geo tag?+
JPG, PNG, WebP and TIFF, all free. HEIC (iPhone's default) can be read but not written: writing it means converting to JPEG, which re-encodes your photo, so we'd rather refuse than do that quietly. JPG is the most reliable target. EXIF in PNG and WebP is less standardised across apps.
Does geotagging photos help SEO?+
Not for Google rankings, no. Google has confirmed EXIF GPS is not a ranking factor and strips it from Business Profile uploads. Geotagging is genuinely useful for portals and MLS that read EXIF, proof-of-location for field work, and organising photo libraries by place.
