Compress a PDF: smaller, in your browser

Shrink a PDF by re-encoding its pages. It's most effective on scanned and image-heavy documents, the ones that are actually too big to email. Everything runs on your device; the file is never uploaded.

Real reduction on scans

Image-heavy and scanned PDFs drop a lot in size.

Won't hand back a bigger file

If a PDF is mostly text and wouldn't shrink, we keep your original instead.

Nothing uploaded

Re-encoded in your browser, unlike compressors that upload your document.

Questions

How do I compress a PDF for free?+

Drop the PDF in, pick a compression level, and download a smaller file. It's re-encoded in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.

Why didn't my PDF get smaller?+

This method shrinks scanned and image-heavy PDFs. A text-only PDF is already compact and won't shrink, so we keep your original rather than return a larger file.

Does it reduce quality?+

Pages are re-encoded as images, so there's some quality loss and text stops being selectable. Choose a higher-quality level if that matters.
