GeoImgr Alternative: An Honest Comparison
GeoImgr is the best-known online geotagger and it's genuinely good. Here's a fair comparison with ours: limits, prices and formats, all checked against their live site.
GeoImgr is the tool most people find first when they search for online geotagging, and it deserves that position. It’s been running for over a decade and it does the job.
We’re a competitor, so read this with appropriate suspicion. What we’ve done to earn some of it back: every figure below was taken from GeoImgr’s own live pages on 17 July 2026, and we’ve included the places they beat us.

Where the difference actually is
The free tier. Theirs is 5 photos a day with no place search. A taster. Ours is 30 a day with the map, search and current-location all included. If you tag a handful of photos occasionally, ours is free and theirs isn’t for long.
The Pro cap. This one surprised us: GeoImgr Pro is $12.90/mo for 1,000 photos a month, not unlimited. Ours is $9.99/mo with no cap. For a photographer with a big shoot, that’s the whole comparison.
Processing. Ours runs in your browser for JPG, PNG and WebP: the file is read, tagged and saved locally, and never transmitted. You can verify that yourself: DevTools → Network → drop a photo → watch nothing get POSTed.
We’re not going to characterise GeoImgr’s architecture for you. What we’ll note is that their pricing metric is “photo upload limits” and their own copy says “upload the image to the tool.” Draw your own conclusions, or check their Network tab the same way you should check ours.
Paying once. GeoImgr is subscription-only (billed through Gumroad). We also sell a one-time day pack, which is what you want when there’s a single project to ship and no reason to hold a subscription.
Where GeoImgr is better
Not a formality. These are real:
- They’ve been at it for ten years. We haven’t. If longevity is what you’re buying, that argument goes entirely to them, and there is no way for us to counter it except by being around in ten years.
- HEIC. Their tool accepts JPG, HEIC, PNG and WebP. We read HEIC but won’t write it: doing so means converting to JPEG, which re-encodes your photo. We’d rather refuse than do that quietly. But if you shoot on an iPhone and don’t want to convert first, that point goes to them.
- Their FAQ is honest where it costs them. They state plainly that geotags can’t prove where a photo was taken. Plenty of tools imply the opposite. Credit where it’s due.
One place we disagree with them
GeoImgr’s tool page says geotagging “can help improve image search results and SEO” and “contribute to the overall SEO of your website.”
We don’t think that’s right. Google has said repeatedly that it doesn’t use image EXIF GPS as a ranking signal, and Google Business Profile strips metadata from uploads entirely, so the most common version of this advice asks you to add data that’s deleted on arrival. This is a disagreement about evidence, not an accusation. It’s a widely-held belief and they’re far from alone in holding it.
Which should you use?
GeoImgr if you want a tool with a ten-year track record, or you need to geotag HEIC without converting it first.
Ours if you want a free tier you can actually work with, an uncapped paid tier that’s cheaper, tagging that never leaves your machine, a full metadata viewer and remover alongside the geotagger, or a one-time purchase instead of a subscription.
Ours is free to try with no account and no card: geotag a photo. If GeoImgr suits you better, use GeoImgr. It’s a good tool.
